Orthoceras lived 400 million years ago, they are an ancient mollusk. What is a Mollusk? *Invertebrate having a soft unregimented body usually enclosed in a shell. Orthoceras are long straight, conical horn shaped shells. The preserved shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid. The fossil is embedded in a matrix of limestone and has been highly polish.
